Cosmetic Tattooing Aftercare
Careful attention is now required to ensure the best possible settling of your micropigmentation treatment(s).
If you have any queries or feel your procedure is not healing as explained please feel free to telephone immediately. Do not panic that the area treated may show redness and swelling and that the colour looks dark and intense – this is all quite normal.
Remember a second treatment cannot be undertaken until the area has completely healed. We state a minimum of 4-6 weeks. We also ask that you return within three months if you require any additional work – after that period a fee will be charged for subsequent visits. No refunds given for failure to return in the agreed time period.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT
NO soap or cleansers are to be used until the treated area has created its own natural barrier. For the first 24 hours try to gently blot the area using a damp cotton wool pad. Apply a fine film of the after care ointment given, using a clean sterile cotton bud. The area treated MUST BE KEPT MOIST for successful healing, with minimal scabbing. Only a thin layer is required - DO NOT OVER APPLY. Continue for 3-5 days or until the area has healed. To keep moist after that period a small amount of Vaseline can be applied.
Once the area has healed completely, after approximately ONE WEEK, you may go out into the sun but please use a waterproof total sunblock at all times. Exposure to the sun over time will cause fading and colour change. Cover the area with Vaseline when going into chlorinated water (swimming pool or Jacuzzi). Strong chemicals or Glycolic Acid/Peels of any kind may cause the pigment to lighten – always telephone and check with your technician if in any doubt.
If showering please try and avoid the water jets hitting the treated area. Ideally, no make-up is to be applied for at least FIVE DAYS although mineral make up is fine but only using clean apparatuses
DO NOT pick or pull at the treated area, as it will result in pigment loss. Remember you will have to go through three phases: heal, peel and fade.
Within 3-10 days the true colour will emerge. After 4/6 weeks the colour will appear to take on a new strength. Often clients think that they have lost their colour or it has lightened too much - please wait the full four weeks to see the true result (6-8 weeks in an older client). This, along with allowing your body to heal is why we wait a minimum of 28 days before your second “Focus” visit.
Only one month after your second visit will the true effect be appreciated –
it is well worth the wait.
Giving Blood - The Red Cross have suggested that you do not give blood for 12 months.
MRI Scans - This procedure shows up as an artifact on the scan. Some clients may experience a tingling sensation. Please notify radiologist.
Injectables, such as Botox and Collagen can alter the shape of eyebrows or the lipline.
Laser Hair Removal on the lipline can cause colour change – it is important to advise LHR technician that you have previously had a semi-permanent lipline.
Remember that colours will fade and can alter in colour – a top-up procedure after 12/24 months is advised to keep your micropigmentation in top condition.

EYEBROWS
Immediately after and for the next 24 hours continue to gently blot the eyebrows. They will weep a clear fluid – lymph (this is normal). The blotting, with damp cotton wool, will remove residue fluid and stop a thick crust from forming. Place a fine layer of vasseline over the brows, by using a cotton bud – one per eyebrow. There is no discomfort after treatment, only slight redness and swelling - which will dissipate within a few hours. A cold compress can help reduce any redness or swelling. Do not tweezer unwanted hairs from around the brows for one week after treatment if they touch the area recently tattooed.
LIPS
Once the anaesthetic has worn off there may be some swelling and redness. There will be no pain after treatment - only dryness on the lip edge, which should be kept moist with vasseline Treat “as eyebrows” but note that if you are prone to cold sores you may place an ice cube over the problem area, until it hurts, to help to prevent an outbreak. Apply vasseline lightly for up to three days. Once the area has healed correctly you can then apply lipstick – ideally it is best to purchase a new lipstick.
Be careful when eating citrus, greasy, salty or spicy foods or drinking citrus juices whilst lips are healing. Be careful when brushing your teeth not to knock the area. Not to much kissing.
If you get a cold sore do telephone to discuss “what to do” before you have your first/additional treatment. (Zovirax/Aciclovor tablets from your Doctor will reduce the chances of an outbreak).
EYES
Swelling differs with each person, but most people have the appearance of looking as if they have been crying. Puffiness can last for 1-2 days but a cold compress on the eyes is both soothing and reduces swelling.
Eyeliners look very hard immediately after treatment, but soften with the healing process. Once the eyeliner has sloughed away a fine soft look is left. Because the area treated is very fine there is no visible healing. We do not suggest the use of any after care products with eyeliner treatments – just use saline to bathe the eyes if they feel sore or “tight”.
Do not curl eyelashes for at least five days after treatment. Purchase a new mascara, but do not use this until approximately 5 days after treatment.
ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE OF WAKING UP WITH YOUR MAKE UP BEAUTIFULLY IN PLACE!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
It is important to telephone immediately if you feel your procedure is not healing as listed and explained.
In time your procedure will fade and can alter in colour. It is good to have a top-up procedure whilst the make-up is present – this would then cost only half the current price. We recommend a re-touch after 9-12 months this will keep the colour looking fresh.
The retouch for brows is definitely required as soon as a pink hue is visible. Tinting the brows can help fend this off until you have time to get in.
If you are considering BOTOX or collagen please note injectables can alter the position of the eyebrows and lip liner.
If you are considering LASER HAIR REMOVAL please ensure you inform the LHR technician that you have had a micropigmentation lip liner treatment (as laser, if done over the vermilion border, can cause the lip line to change colour).
If you are considering laser treatments or other skin altering procedures, such as plastic surgery, chemical peels, implants etc. then these may alter your semi-permanent make-up.
If you have to have an MRI or CAT scan then please tell the radiologist that you have iron-oxide semi-permanent make-up – and that you could possibly experience a tingling sensation.
